WaCa exhibition in Accra, Ghana

The 7th annual West and Central Africa mining conference - WaCa - takes place in Accra, Ghana on 20th and 21st May.

WearCheck will be present once again, with staff from our South African and Ghanaian laboratories on hand to meet delegates and help with technical queries.

The development of the mining industry in West Africa inspired WearCheck to open an oil analysis laboratory in Tarkwa, Ghana in 2013. And, on par with the burgeoning Central African mining industry, WearCheck Congo’s laboratory, our 11th, opens imminently in the D.R.C

Oil analysis and condition monitoring have been proven time and again to add to your bottom line by helping to avoid catastrophic component failure and expensive downtime.

Please come and visit WearCheck at stand no.31 at the WaCa expo. Click here for more information.

WearCheck Training - A great investment!

Companies who reap the best rewards from their investment in a good oil analysis and condition monitoring programme, have also invested in training their staff to perform the necessary operations correctly, such as taking samples, reading the reports and acting on the advice of WearCheck's diagnosticians.

So, to boost your bottom line in the plant maintenance arena, why not send your staff on one of WearCheck's customer training courses?

Training courses

Oil Analysis One covers the fundamentals of lubrication and oil analysis.
This is a 2 day course and costs R4 999.

Oil Analysis Two explains everything you need to know about the WearCheck reports, helping the customer get a better understanding of their test results and how to precede. This is a 1 day course and costs R2 500.

Oil Analysis Three is in the process of being re-created. Further information to follow.

All courses include course material, refreshments, giveaways and certificates. Prices exclude VAT and are subject to change.

On-site training courses

All courses can also be presented at your premises for a minimum of seven delegates.

WearCheck also offers two more on-site courses:

WearCheck Practical (in English or Zulu), a half day course costing R600 plus VAT per delegate. This course is ideal for "oil samplers", artisans or anyone new to oil analysis.

WearCheck Customised – oil analysis for workshop technicians, a full day course costing R1450 plus VAT per delegate. This course is designed around your company requirements for an oil analysis programme.

Arrange a training course near you.
Training courses can also be arranged in any of the following areas: Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Kimberley, Makopane, Middelburg, Nelspruit, Port Elizabeth, Rustenburg, Steelpoort, Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania (Mwanza), Zambia (Kitwe) – in fact anywhere you need a training course, we will make a plan to run it for you!

Set Point cyclists conquer The 94.7

Standing proudly (some nervously!) at the starting line of the recent 94.7 cycle race in Johannesburg were fourteen intrepid cyclists from the various Set Point sister companies. All fourteen Set Point team members who started the race, also crossed the finish line and earned medals.

Congratulations to all the team members who put in a big effort to complete their training and grind their gears to climb the inclines on the new course, which is apparently much hillier than previously.

Thank you and well done to Greg Morse, Set Point Group Health and Safety manager, for a great job as team manager.

Some of the Set Point cyclists who completed the gruelling 94.7 cycle race in Johannesburg recently were, from left to right, Sharon Fay, Greg Morse, Karen Black, Steven Black, Marius de Wet, Stephed Francis, Wian Nortje, Eran Nortje and Pieter Nortje.

(Other cyclists who completed the race but were not in the photograph were: Adrian Budding, Deon Steenkamp, Caitlin van Eeden, Ryan Joshua and Vic Bester.)

Talking Turbine Testing

Maintaining turbines in optimum operating condition at minimum cost is one of the goals of a good condition monitoring programme. WearCheck has created an oil analysis regime that does just this.

Not only do the turbines themselves form a substantial financial investment for industry, but so does the oil that keeps the turbine components operating smoothly.

The value of oil analysis in protecting these large capital outlays has been proven many times over.

A variety of turbine oil sample tests yields a wealth of information which enables the best remedial action to be taken.

Technical Bulletin 59 discusses the turbine sample tests in detail – how they are conducted and what stories they tell.

Renewable energy from wind power has been a strong focus point for WearCheck in recent times, particularly the extension of the reliable service life of wind turbines and their components through condition monitoring.

This is in line with this year’s Windaba theme: ‘Power2thePeople – improving lives through wind energy.’

The WearCheck wind power team will be on hand at Windaba 2014 to answer queries, meet clients and to shed light on the new condition monitoring techniques for the wind industry.

Come and meet us at Stand 6, Windaba, from 3 – 5 November 2014 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

2 million samples - a world first?

Congratulations to diagnostician Rowan Maartens on diagnosing his two millionth sample for WearCheck!

Rowan joined WearCheck in 1982 as a diagnostician, and he has clocked up a record 2 000 000 samples in the three decades he has been at WearCheck.

We are very proud of you, Rowan! While we are unsure of the precise current global statistics, we are pretty certain that you must be in the top few people in the world, if not the first person in the world, with this incredible number of diagnoses to your name.
