Transformer Oil Analysis Services

Transformers are theoretically designed to last a couple of hundred years, with the limitation to their life span being the deterioration of the insulation paper. Today the majority of transformers are operating at a 25 % higher work load than recommended, leading to gas production and faster deterioration of the insulation paper.

The following will destroy insulation paper:
  • Water (moisture)
  • Oxygen
  • Heat
  • Oil oxidation
  • Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) analysis

As transformer demands evolve, we see a move away from doing just classic moisture, acid and dielectric (MADS) tests, with the focus being more on “specialist tests”.

Transformer laboratories have become better equipped and the focus is now heavily on quality.
